President Lee, head of World Bank discuss G20 Seoul Summit cooperation

President Lee Myung-bak met with World Bank President Robert B. Zoellic at Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul on October 22.

At the meeting, Lee and Zoellic discussed measures to enhance cooperation between Korea and the World Bank to ensure the success of next month’s G20 Seoul Summit.

President Lee praised the World Bank's efforts to actualize the development agendas of the G20, and emphasized the importance of development in helping to reduce poverty and promote sustainable, balanced growth.

He urged the World Bank to promote development issues worldwide, adding that Korea will play an active part in the development agenda discussion. 

Lee also expressed his hope that Korea and the World Bank can closely cooperate at the upcoming G20 Seoul Summit, while asking the World Bank to maintain its keen interest in and support for the global gathering.

Zoellic responded by expressing his thanks for Korea's interest in and support for the development agenda of the G20, and agreed to strengthen cooperation with Korea to ensure a successful outcome for the G20 Seoul Summit. 

Zoellic also expressed his hope that the World Bank will be able to work with Korea in the development sector after summit ends.

Zoellic is visiting Korea for the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' Meeting, currently being held in Gyeongju, Gyoengsangbuk-do.
